Pikes Peak is a massive 14,109 foot mountain that abruptly and dramatically rises from the high plains of eastern Colorado, and forms a marvelous visual backdrop to the city of Colorado Springs. It provides the area with magnificent natural beauty and a wide range of recreational opportunities.
Over a half million people reach the summit house every year via the Pikes Peak Highway, Barr Trail, or the Cog Railway. The 19-mile highway (partially paved) is open year round, weather permitting.
Barr trail is a 13 mile trail that begins in Manitou Springs. The cog railway also located in Manitou, operates April through December.
Three events take place up the peak each year. The Pikes Peak Marathon happens every August, and draws runners from around the world. The Pikes Peak Auto and Hill Climb also occurs every summer, and the AdAmAn Club New Years Fireworks Display brightens each New Year.
